Accessibility

Our commitment

Ezergrade should work for every student and teacher, including those who rely on assistive technology. Accessibility is designed into the product, not bolted on: because Ezergrade is audio-paced, every test word is delivered as speech, so a student who finds reading difficult can hear each word rather than depend on text alone. Student screens use high-contrast "chalk" colors chosen for legibility, and type is set in readable display and body fonts.

Conformance status

We measure Ezergrade against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — the standard most schools reference. In July 2026 we completed a formal self-assessment of our core student and teacher interfaces, combining a line-by-line code review with hands-on testing in real browsers, at zoom, with a keyboard alone, and with a screen reader.

Scope. That assessment covers the assessment product: joining and taking a test in every mode, the teacher dashboard, word lists, classes, students, results, and account pages. Our practice games shipped after the assessment was completed and have not yet been assessed — see the section below. We say so here rather than let a scope gap sit behind a general conformance statement.

This is an honest self-assessment, not a third-party certification. We hold to a simple rule: we never claim a certification until it is official. What follows is an accurate picture of what conforms today and what we are still improving — because a truthful summary is more useful to a school than a badge.

What Ezergrade supports today

• Full keyboard operation. The test-taking and teacher flows are built on standard, keyboard-operable controls — students and teachers can complete a test without a mouse.
• Sufficient color contrast. Text and controls meet the WCAG AA contrast minimums, verified with a contrast tool against our actual screens.
• Labelled controls. Inputs and buttons carry clear names, so a screen reader announces what each field and action does.
• Zoom and reflow. Content remains usable and nothing is lost when the page is enlarged to 200%.
• Reduced-motion respect. Decorative motion is disabled for anyone whose device requests reduced motion.
• Audio-first delivery. Words are spoken aloud, and students can replay a word as many times as they need in self-paced and homework modes.
• Honest Input™ disables autocorrect and spellcheck during tests — an integrity feature that also keeps the student's own input predictable.

Where we are still improving

We keep this list public because accessibility is an ongoing commitment, not a finished box:

• Practice games. Our four word-practice games are newly built and are not yet covered by our WCAG 2.1 AA assessment. They are an optional practice feature, separate from every graded test mode — no part of taking or being graded on an Ezergrade assessment depends on them. Assessing and remediating the games is scheduled work, and this page and our conformance report will be updated when it is done.
• Live status announcements. The teacher's live dashboard updates in real time as students join, type, and submit, and the student screen changes as a test progresses. Some of these on-screen changes are not yet announced automatically to a screen reader. This is our top accessibility priority.
• Faster keyboard navigation past long lists. On a large class roster, a keyboard user currently tabs through each student to reach the sections below. We're improving how that content is structured.
• Assistive technology across every device. We test most thoroughly on desktop browsers; tablet screen-reader coverage is an area of ongoing work.

Detailed conformance report

Schools and districts that need a criterion-by-criterion accessibility conformance report (in VPAT®/ACR form) for procurement can request one — including our current findings for each applicable WCAG 2.1 AA success criterion — by emailing support@ezergrade.com. We share the same honest results documented here. The report covers the same scope as the assessment described above; our practice games are noted in it as not yet assessed.
